No Man’s Sky – How to Get a Freighter and Space Armada
Creating Your Space Army in No Man’s Sky
One of the most exciting features in No Man’s Sky is the ability to create your own space army, consisting of a freighter and accompanying frigates. These massive vessels can be sent deep into space to carry out missions for you, earning rewards with minimal effort on your part.
Freighter Costs
If you thought spaceships were expensive to buy, then it’s no surprise that freighters are real piggybank destroyers. A basic freighter can cost several million units in the game. However, you can acquire your first one for free.
Free Freighters
Once you’ve upgraded your ship with a warp drive, you can travel to another galaxy. After warping a few times, you may encounter a nearby freighter under attack. Destroy the attacking ships, and the grateful freighter commander will invite you aboard. Dock as you would at a space station, visit the command deck to talk to the captain, and you may be lucky enough to receive his ship for free. This marks the beginning of your journey towards building a spaceship armada.
How to Earn Money with Freighters
After talking to a commander and acquiring his ship, you can speak to his crew to unlock the ability to build a freighter command center. This room allows you to control your freighters and send them on missions. You’ll first need to gather the relevant materials – these can be collected by shooting up local asteroids. Once installed, you can send your freighters on various missions. Be cautious, though, as missions have varying difficulty levels, and you must ensure that your fleet’s rating is equal to or higher than the mission’s difficulty to avoid failure and costly repairs.
Accompanying Frigates
Freighters are more likely to succeed if they’re accompanied by frigates. Frigates are support ships that you can hire to enhance your freighter’s performance. Although they are expensive, investing in bigger and better frigates will help ensure mission success. Frigates have specific stats, so playing around with different combinations can yield the best results for your deep space missions.
