TOP 6 NEW Upcoming NEXT GEN Console Games of 2022 & 2023

While it’s unfortunate many gamers are still struggling to get their hands on the next-gen consoles, a few of us have been enjoying PlayStation 5 games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal, or Xbox Series games like Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. These games truly show off the promise of “next-gen” with their high fidelity graphics, immersive worlds, and astounding gameplay features. However, while we enjoy these games and our fellow gamers wait to receive their consoles, many developers are working diligently on their next-gen titles. So while we wait, let’s see what is in store for us with the top 6 new upcoming next-gen games of 2022 and 2023.

  1. Ghostwire: Tokyo

First-person action-adventure game Ghostwire: Tokyo has you playing as magical being Akito in a version of Tokyo that is devoid of humans but entirely haunted by evil spirits. Developer Tango Gameworks is no stranger to horror games, having made the terrifying The Evil Within and its sequel. Use hand-based magic spells and flashy takedowns to exorcise these spirits and find out what happened to Tokyo. Who are you gonna call when there’s something strange in your neighborhood? Probably Akito when Ghostwire: Tokyo launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 in 2022

  1. Pragmata

A man in a spacesuit walks through an abandoned city. He sees holographic images of what we can only assume are past events. He then comes across a little girl with a puffy jacket and a transparent hologram cat. The ground rumbles, and a thunderous crash rings through the sky as it….is shattered by a falling satellite? The spaceman and girl get sucked up into the sky and use a crafted barrier to protect themselves from the falling satellite. The little girl might be a robot? This is all we know about Capcom’s upcoming strange, avant-garde sci-fi action game Pragmata. Even the name is strange, but with visuals and concepts like this, we could be getting something special when Pragmata is released for Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, and PC in 2023.

  1. Final Fantasy XVI

The Final Fantasy series needs no introduction. Square Enix’s fantasy RPG series has covered many genres and settings, going so far as to be the top MMO RPG in the world right now with Final Fantasy XIV, which just wrapped up with its final expansion, Endwalker. While we enjoy that, Square is working on its newest single-player action RPG to the franchise with Final Fantasy XVI, which looks to be set in a medieval fantasy landscape. COVID has unfortunately delayed development by quite a lot, and there is no solid release date, but look forward to Final Fantasy XVI when it launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 sometime in 2023 or beyond.

  1. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was a dark, deeply affecting journey through Norse mythology and into hell to rescue the soul of a deceased loved one. It was very well received upon its release, won many awards, and was lauded for its tasteful, informed depiction of psychosis. Developer Ninja Theory has much to be proud of, and I am sure they are carrying that momentum into the sequel, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. From the gameplay footage that has been revealed, it’s looking to be a marvel of next-gen capabilities, pushing Unreal Engine 5 to its limits on the powerful Xbox hardware. Get ready to lead an army against the monstrosities of Norse mythology when Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 releases exclusively for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass sometime after 2022.

  1. Redfall

Redfall by the incredibly talented Arkane Studios of Dishonored, Prey, and Deathloop fame, is another entry to the “four-player co-op vs. many enemies” genre which was started by Left 4 Dead. However, Instead of taking your four companions through maps to fight hordes of zombies, in Redfall, you will utilize the special abilities of a cast of four unique characters to fight a city full of blood-sucking vampires! Adapt your combat as the vampires themselves grow more powerful, and prepare to also fight the legion of cultists who are vying to become vampires themselves. Do all of this in a vast, open-world map with a huge number of places to explore, attack, and defend. Grab your garlic and load your guns; Redfall launches on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass in 2022.

  1. Starfield

Microsoft has been on a studio buying spree the past few years as a method of increasing their game output for their service Game Pass, and one of those purchases was mega-publisher Bethesda Softworks. This company is known for literal game-changing releases like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. Bethesda’s upcoming game Starfield promises to be a sci-fi adventure on an interplanetary scale with all the lessons they have learned from releasing Skyrim 50 times. Jump from planet to planet in your starship and study the lifeforms of each place you visit on a voyage will entertain gamers for countless hours. Shoot for the stars when Starfield lifts off for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass on November 11th, 2022.
