NBA 2K23 MyTeam Features Explained: Cards, Challenges, Co-Op, Leaderboards
/NBA 2K23’s MyTeam introduces a brand-new set of features alongside new changes that are aimed to make the game even more entertaining for players. The goal is to make MyTeam more accessible and grant players a degree of freedom they have never experienced before. There’s a lot to cover so let’s begin.
INTRODUCTION OF TRIPLE THREAT ONLINE: CO-OP
- Triple Threat Online: Co-Op is the new feature that’s coming to NBA 2K23. The mode lets you play co-op in any configuration you like. However, it’s not available on Switch.
- The new co-op mode supports any combination of two to six players. You’ll automatically enter Party Mode if a friend chooses to play against you. If there are empty slots, they will be automatically filled by adequate teammates chosen by the AI.
- You can also join your friends in co-op mode and take on AI opponents. Winning games will enable each of you to climb up your individual Season ladders.
- There is also the Competitive Mode, where you will earn more rewards (packs, tokens, MyTeam Points, and special takeover reward players) in addition to your Seasonal Ladder rewards.
- Competitive rewards will be frequently updated alongside other MyTeam modes, and the Ladder rewards will be refreshed at the end of every season as usual.
REMOVAL OF CONTRACTS
- Contracts have not been replaced. They are simply removed from the game.
- No longer do you have to constantly fill permanent player cards with contracts. They can now be used as you please.
- Thanks to this new feature, you will now be able to quickly restart most single player games in MyTeam, such as, Triple Threat and Domination.
BETTER POSITION LOCK
- NBA 2K23 allows you to position lock for an entire MyTeam game. So, whether you want to preserve your player’s stamina, or you’re simply used to playing in a specific position, this new improvement will make it much easier to execute the strategy.
RETURN OF $250,000 MYTEAM UNLIMITED TOURNAMENTS
- The iconic NBA 2K tournament returns to both previous (PS4 and Xbox One) and new-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S).
- You’ll have to reach at least the Emerald Tier in the new Unlimited mode before October 15th, which is the first GameDay. The rest of the format remains the same.
- However, this year, 2K will bring their 4 console finalists to an in-person event where the $200,000 Grand Champions and $50,000 Champions will be crowned.
- You have only 4 chances to qualify for the tournament during the GameDay so start practicing.
LEADERBOARDS OVERHAUL
- Previously, you needed to meet certain records in order to climb the tiers. However, in 2K23, it’s getting replaced by Season Points.
- Now every game, win or lose, will give you Season Points that will count towards your rankings. The more you play, the faster you can climb through the tiers.
- 2K23 also introduces the Prestige tiers. After you’ve reached the Dark Matter tier, you can climb even further, show off your skills, and earn better rewards. The tiers now also have a new Vault that you can open once you’ve won a game.
- Leaderboards are also back. Moreover, a special icon will be displayed beside the names of the top 10 players on the leaderboard, which they can show off in MyTeam’s multiplayer modes.
- Even if you’re not in the top 10, you can also earn a special icon by reaching the Prestige tier for that season.
- Leaderboards reset every Season to provide a level playing field for new players.
NEW STARTER CARDS
- In 2K23, you can play with a Starter Card of your choice in a Triple Threat game before making the final decision.
- Once you’re done with the Starter Kit of players, you will have to play a quick game in the new Clutch Time court.
SINGLE PLAYER VARIANT OF CLUTCH TIME
- The Single Player variant of Clutch Time is a new addition to NBA 2K23. In it, you’ll have to win 10 games without losing three in a row. It’s a super-fast paced mode consisting of a single 5-minute quarter, sudden death overtime, a 4-point line, and a 14-second shot clock.
PRIZE BALLS
- These are special new balls that get closer to breaking after each game, whether you win or lose. However, you only get to break one of these after you win, and they contain special hidden rewards inside.
EXHIBITIONS
- Exhibitions offer a new, passive way to enhance your card collection.
- You can send players that are not in your 13-player lineup to exhibitions around the globe. At the end of their mission time, they will return with special rewards.
TROPHY CASE
- You can now earn a top-tier player from each franchise by completing a team’s Trophy Case.
- There are 15 Event Cards for every franchise, highlighting key historical moments.
- Completing the entire collection of a single franchise gives you a Pink Diamond player for each team.
- You get a Galaxy Opal by collecting 5 division Pink Diamond players. Completing the NBA collections and conferences gets you three 99 OVR Dark Matter players.
SINGLE PLAYER TRIPLE THREAT
- Consists of quick 3v3 games, and the first team to reach 21 points first wins. The mode is ideal for Agenda grinders and new players.
- Furthermore, rewards are refreshed every Season, and each Season comes with an exclusive reward ladder.
- Finally, new gen players can now change key defensive settings even during Triple Threat games.
DOMINATION
- Domination in NBA 2K23 will have five sets of 33 games.
- The eras shown in the Jordan Challenge will also be enabled in Domination games.
- You’ll need to defeat your opponent by a specific number of points in order to dominate them. Point calculations based on post moves and dunks have been removed.
