Cassette Beasts: How to Easily Catch Monsters

The capture mechanic in Cassette Beasts is quite unique compared to other popular monster-catching games like Pokémon. This guide will not only explain how to capture these creatures, but also share tips, tricks, and strategies to make your creature-capturing journey much smoother.

When you have tapes in your inventory, you can select the Record option to commence the recording process. During this time, your character will transform back into their human state and become vulnerable to incoming damage. You’ll also be immobilized for an entire turn, and the recording percentage will depend on the creature’s rarity, current health, and other factors. Taking damage during the recording process will decrease the percentage, while dealing damage to the creature will increase it. Additionally, a creature cannot be knocked out while it’s being recorded.

Catching Monsters in Cassette Beasts

Before you start the recording process it’s essential to be strategic to avoid taking damage and maximize your chances of a successful capture. Here are some tips to help you prepare:

Use Elemental Walls: Many creatures have access to Elemental Wall moves that create a barrier at the cost of 20% of your max HP. These walls have stacks and can last for a few turns or hits, allowing you to go for the recording process without worrying about losing percentage points due to damage.

Attract Enemies: Some moves attract enemies towards a specific ally. However, beware of moves with spread damage or multi-hitting moves that can break through your walls and hit you.

Acquiring More Tapes and Resources: To get more cassette tapes, visit the main hub in Harbor Town, the café, and speak to the lady behind the counter. She’ll offer various items, including cassette tapes, in exchange for resources. As you progress through the game she will have more items available for purchase. Resources in Cassette Beasts, such as plastic, wood, and metal, can be obtained by battling other cassette users and wild creatures, or by finding them in chests.

Utilizing Elemental Tapes: Scattered throughout the game, you can find Elemental tapes that give you a higher chance of capturing a specific cassette beast of that particular type. Collect these tapes to improve your chances of capturing the creatures you’re after.

Upgrading the Microphone for Better Capture Rates: Collect fused materials from various rogue fusions or by completing certain quests in the game, to upgrade the microphone on your cassette player at the Rangers Guild. This upgrade will improve your base capture rate (%25), making it much easier to catch monsters in the game.
