Ready to tinker with your virtual ride? I’ve got the perfect guide to help you swap engines like a pro in Car Mechanic Simulator 2021! Let’s dive right in!
- First up let’s find the config file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021_Data\StreamingAssets\Cars
OR
D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021\Car Mechanic Simulator 2021_Data\StreamingAssets\Cars (replace ‘D’ if your drive letter is different)
- Next, search for “swapoptions=” under the [6 engine] category in the config file you want to modify. Type in the engine names you desire, separated by commas for multiple options.
- Remember: Use filenames, NOT in-game names! For instance, the I6 DOHC BU2 Turbo engine (in-game) is “engine r6 2jz t” in the filenames. Find these in the Localization file within the StreamingAssets folder.
- Want to switch the default engine? Change “type=” under “swapoptions=” to your preferred choice.
- After tweaking the config, confirm your changes & make any necessary adjustments to the motor’s position/scale. Use the tool editor for that!
- Pro Tip: Create a new version of an existing car by copying and pasting the config & bodyconfig files, then add numbers to the names, keeping the original car variants intact.
- For single config/bodyconfig files, name them “config1” and “bodyconfig1.” If there’s more than one, continue numbering sequentially.
- Lastly, modify the variant name under “carVersionName=.” For example, typing “GTi” into “Emden Jager” results in your variant being called “Emden Jager GTi.”
- And there you have it! Now you’re a bona fide virtual car mechanic, ready to swap engines like a champ!!
