Cities: Skylines 2 - Natural Disasters

Hey, city planner! Ready to tackle Mother Nature’s wild side in Cities: Skylines II: Natural Disasters? This ain’t your grandma’s SimCity. Disasters can pop up & wreck your perfect skyline, but we gotchu. Strap in -> let’s break this down and get you ready to handle whatever the game throws at you.

The Lowdown on Natural Disasters

  • What’s the Deal?: So, you can add a little (or a lot) of chaos to your gameplay with these natural disasters. If you’re feeling kinda chill, or maybe you just don’t want that perfect city to get all messed up, you can turn off disasters when you’re starting a new game or loading up an old one.

  • The Aftermath: Now, these disasters? They’re no joke. We’re talking traffic jams ‘cause of accidents, buildings getting smashed, and your peeps getting hurt. And, yeah, while you can prep a bit, you can’t dodge ’em all. That’s life, right?

When Stuff Hits the Fan: Citizen Moves

  • Shelter Time!: When things start to look dicey, your citizens ain’t gonna stand around waiting to get crushed. They’re gonna bolt for the nearest shelter. And guess what? Those shelters? Rock solid. Ain’t no disaster bringing them down.

  • Full House: If the shelters get packed (probably because of your dope city planning skills), folks will just leg it away from the disaster.

Keep Track with the Event Journal

Ever heard the saying, pics or it didn’t happen? Well, in this game, it’s logs or it didn’t happen. Check the Event Journal on the right side of the main UI. It’s like your disaster diary, showing all the craziness in chronological order.

Disasters Breakdown

Forest Fires:

  • Why They Happen: Fire loves dry weather. So, if you’ve got low rain and high temps, keep an eye out.

  • When it Gets Real: If these fires get close to buildings, it’s BBQ time. Not the fun kind.

  • Pro Tip: Wanna stay ahead of the curve? Pop some Firewatch Towers around. They’ll cut down the chances of a fire and speed up firefighter response. And don’t sleep on the Firefighting Helicopter Depot. Trucks are cool, but they can’t fly over forests.

Hail Storms:

  • Cold But Not TOO Cold: That’s when these bad boys pop up.

  • When it Gets Real: Buildings will get dinged up but not totally trashed. Oh and watch out for those fender benders!!

  • Pro Tip: After the storm, those damaged buildings will need some TLC. And guess who’s footing the bill? Yup, your citizens.

Tornadoes:

  • The Big Kahuna: This is the disaster movie-level event.

  • When it Gets Real: Buildings? Trashed. People? Hurt. Traffic? Don’t even get me started.

  • Pro Tip: Prep game needs to be strong for this one. Get those Emergency Shelters up ASAP. The Early Disaster Warning System is also clutch. If a twister’s coming, you wanna know yesterday.

Gearing Up

  • Prep, Prep, Prep: So, yeah, you can’t dodge every curveball, but you can get your mitt ready. Invest in those disaster control systems.

  • Stay Alert: That Early Disaster Warning System isn’t just for show. It’s like your city’s guardian angel. Well sort of…
