Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Source Powers
Characters in your story, whether custom-made or original, are sorcerers with access to the Source. The Source is the energy behind life creation in Rivellon, granting great powers to those who tap into it. In gameplay, the Source is linked to Bless and Curse abilities and also provides stronger special skills. Using Source skills requires a Source point in addition to Action points and cooldowns, which can be obtained through walking in Source pools, draining corpses, or talking with spirits. However, draining the Source from the dead may lead to darkness with terrible consequences.
Using the Source should be reserved for tough encounters, as running out of Source points during critical moments is not ideal. At the start of the game, each character has one maximum Source point, which increases to up to three as you progress. To make the most of Source skills, wait for the right opportunity to use them. Remove armors on targets before using the skills, or use skills that can remove the armors. If using a big skill that impacts multiple targets, wait until as many enemies as possible are in range.
Compare a Fireball regular skill and Epidemic of Fire, a Source skill, for the same character. Though the damage may seem similar, Epidemic of Fire has the added benefit of bouncing up to 5 times and leaving a cursed fire field, making it a powerful weapon.
When using Source skills, choose ones that maximize your strengths and fit your strategy. For example, if you have a mage with strong fire damage and average access to other elements, prioritize using fire Source spells for maximum damage output.
Though Source skills may initially appear underwhelming due to their cost, they can be game-changers if used at the right time and with a build that takes advantage of them. One well-timed Source skill can turn the tide of battle in your favor.
