Dominions 6: How to Dispel Global Enchantments

In Dominions 6, handling global enchantments is a key aspect of your strategy… These spells are major game-changers, impacting the whole game world & yes, they need quite a stash of gems to cast. The effects they bring? Tremendously powerful. There’s a cap on how many of these can be active – it might be 3, 5, 7, or 9, and this is something you can adjust in the game setup.

To check out the active enchantments, it’s simple: hit the Global Enchantments button or just press F6. Here’s an insider tip: when casting one of these behemoths, adding extra gems boosts its resilience against dispelling efforts. The max extra gems a mage can use is their path level times 100… this means a mage with high skills can seriously amp up the power of even a basic spell.

Remember though, the enchantments are closely linked to their caster. If the caster is taken out of the picture, whether through natural causes or enemy action, the enchantment vanishes… this holds true even for those immortal units waiting for a comeback.

Now, onto dispelling these enchantments?? There are two main tactics. First off, there’s the Dispel spell, generally an Enchantment-5, Astral-3 spell. The other approach is casting a new global enchantment when there’s no more room. This might bump off an existing spell, but it’s a roll of the dice which one gets replaced.

An interesting point to remember: if you cast an enchantment that’s already up by another nation, your spell will directly target theirs. But be cautious – if all global slots are filled & you cast another, you risk accidentally dispelling one of your own spells…

Regarding the Dispel mechanics: When Dispel is cast or a global tries to replace another, a comparison is made. The game tallies the extra gems used & the caster’s skill level above the spell’s requirements. The scoring is +1 for each extra gem, +5 for each skill level above the requirement. Then comes the DRN roll (that’s two open-ended dice)… the higher total determines the winner.

So in Dominions 6, getting rid of a global enchantment is more than just casting another spell… it’s a strategic play involving your resource management – both gems & your mage’s skill level – plus, there’s always the element of chance with the dice roll.
