Dominions 6: How to Increase Your Dominion
Let’s dive into how dominion works in Dominions 6 – Rise of the Pantokrator. First off, you gotta remember that having your troops in a province doesn’t automatically mean you control the dominion there. Dominion’s kind of like your influence; it spreads out from a few key places – like your pretender, your capital, your temples, and if you’ve got one, your prophet. In team games, disciples help spread it too & in games with Thrones of Ascension, those thrones are also a big deal.
Now, why’s your dominion always popping around your home base? Every turn, the game’s checking if your dominion should spread from there. Makes sense right?? It’s like your home base is the heart of your influence.
Now, how much your dominion spreads depends partly on your god’s initial dominion level – that’s something you decide when you create your pretender. Let’s say in a solo game, you have a nation with eight temples and a pretender starting with a dominion of 7. Each temple boosts your chances of spreading dominion by 80% each turn. Pop in two more temples, for a total of ten and your chances per temple shoot up to 90%… this is what’s known as a “temple check” and it’s pretty crucial for increasing your dominion…
Different sources impact your dominion in different ways:
- Your Pretender: Counts for one automatic increase plus two temple checks.
- Home Province: Gets one temple check.
- Prophet, Temple, Disciple: Each one adds another temple check.
- Thrones of Ascension: These are special. If you’re playing with the “Thrones of Ascension” victory condition, provinces with a throne are like super temples. You gotta claim these thrones though, using a pretender, prophet or a level 3 priest and the “Claim Throne of Ascension” order. Thrones can do anywhere from 1 to 7 temple checks – it varies from throne to throne.
When it’s time for a temple check, a few things might happen. If a province is neutral, your dominion automatically goes up to +1. But if it’s already under your control, the chance of it increasing is lower – it decreases by 3% for each level of friendly dominion already there. So, the more you’ve got the harder it is to grow it further… And if dominion doesn’t increase in the current province, it might spread to a neighboring one. Against enemy dominion? You’ve got a shot at reducing it by one point…
The formula for reducing enemy dominion is kind of a balancing act: 50% plus your maximum dominion multiplied by 5%, minus the enemy dominion in that province also multiplied by 5%. So higher enemy dominion levels are tougher to chip away at. Think of a chain of high dominion provinces as a kind of “faith barrier” against enemy influence.
Each dominion spread in a province with friendly dominion will either up that dominion level or jump to a neighboring province. So one temple check can spread your dominion pretty far, as long as there’s a friendly path.
