Dominions 6: Sieges

Dominions 6: Sieges

Sieging a fortress in Dominions 6 isn’t just a show of brute force… It’s a complex dance of power, strategy & sometimes, pure cunning; here’s the nitty-gritty:

  • Reduction Strength: Think of this like your siege power. It’s basically the strength of your units squared. Oh, and if you got flying units, they’re like double trouble.

  • Repair Strength: This is what the defenders got. It’s their unit strength squared, but only half as effective. Flying units still count double, but mindless ones? They’re kinda weak sauce, just 1/8th of the usual value. Animals (no, not monkeys!) and undisciplined troops get their value slashed in half.

Now the math part: your reduction strength battles it out with their repair strength. If your squad’s got more muscle, the fortress’s defense starts crumbling. But if they’re patching things up faster than you’re wrecking ’em, the defense goes back up – but never over the original value.

What’s the Deal With Supplies?

During a siege, the fortress keeps the defenders fed, but the supplies go down as the siege drags on. First turn, they get full supply, then it’s half, then a third, and so on… Starving units?? They get weak, might catch a disease, and could eventually kick the bucket.

Orders Up!!

  • Break Siege: It’s like going all-in. Your troops clash with the enemy, with the possibility of retreating back to the fortress or a nearby friendly zone.

  • Maintain Siege: This is the ‘steady as she goes’ command. It’s the default setting & doesn’t require constant attention unless you’re changing strategies.

  • Storm Castle: The grand finale of your siege efforts. It’s available only when the fortress’s defense hits zero. But beware, if you’ve already been scrapping in that province, your troops might be worn out before the big fight.

Storming the Castle & Its Defenders

This is where things get spicy. Storming a castle pits your ‘Storm Castle’ commanders and their units against the defenders. If your commander falls before the battle, their units won’t join the fray.

The defenders have some aces up their sleeves: Castle Guards & Wall Defenders… these guys get a refresh every battle, adding to the fortress’s defense capabilities. Wall Defenders are particularly tough, with unlimited ammo, better range, & some protection against your projectiles.

Extra Tips

Know Your Forts Inside & Out

Different fortresses ain’t all built the same – they got their own levels of fortification. This means their defense values & how many defenders they can hold vary a ton. You gotta tweak your siege game depending on which fort you’re trying to crack open… cause what works on one might flop on another.

Mix Up Your Troops

Mixing up your unit types, especially throwing in some with special powers like flying or ethereal units, gives you a serious edge. Not only do they help break down the fortress faster, but they also come in real handy when it’s time to storm the place…

Keep an Eye on Those Enemy Moves

This part’s like playing detective – keep a close watch on what the enemy’s up to outside the fortress. Are they bringing in reinforcements?? or maybe they’re too busy elsewhere? Figuring out their moves & reacting accordingly can totally swing things in your favor during a siege.
