What is “Open Fort” strategy?
The game begins with three item rounds. Starting in round 10, you will have a neutral round every fifth round (round 10, 15, 20… etc). Defeating all the neutrals will lead to the most item options, whereas killing none will mean you walk away with whatever item the game gives you. Items cannot be sold or exchanged later.
- -Round 10: Fight against ancients. You will be at least level 5 and will need to have a front-line of damage soakers or extremely high DPS. This round is not difficult, but it can be lost.
- -Round 15: Fight against jumping wolves. This may be the trickiest loot round for new players because the neutrals will teleport into your back lines and onto your weakest allies. You can mitigate this by having your highest DPS hero in a protective box or using disables such as Shadow Shaman.
- -Round 20: Bear Trap. This round has two jungle hellbearers and should be pretty easy.
- -Round 25: Survival of the Fittest. Again, this round should be pretty easy for any player still keeping up in the game.
- -Round 30: Big Dinos, Big Rewards is a fight against an ancient camp of Thunderhides. There are three, and they deal high damage but are vulnerable to negative armor
- -Round 35: Things Are Heating Up is a fight against a Black Dragon ancient. It deals extremely high damage. Putting a couple high-value tanks up front will usually buy enough time for DPS heroes to kill
- -Round 40: You’re about to be trolled… by a neutral camp of trolls. There’s six trolls in this fight, so positioning is key. AOE abilities are more valuable here than in other neutral fights.
Most games will end within a few rounds of 40.
After a neutral round, if you do not select your items before the looting timer runs out, the game will randomly assign you an item from the list of options.
