Fallout 1 PC Keyboard Controls Guide

Fallout 1, the first game in the series, really holds a special place in the hearts of many PC gamers… It’s an incredibly well-made game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Although the game doesn’t have a section that displays all the available keybinds, we’ve gone ahead and listed them all for you in this guide for easy reference. So bookmark this page if you want to check out the hotkeys available in the game and learn what each keybind does.

Default Keyboard Shortcuts and Hotkeys

Moving Around & Camera Focus:

Arrow Keys: These are your go-to for moving the camera around to get a better look at the Wasteland.

Home Key: Instantly snaps the camera back to your character, so you never lose track of where you are.

Space Bar: If you’re in a fight, this ends your turn, or if things are calm, it’ll end combat mode.

Skills on the Fly:

Numbers 1 to 8: Quick access to your survival skills—sneak, pick locks, swipe items, disarm traps, heal up, play doctor, get scientific, or fix stuff.

Inventory & Gear Management:

I: Brings up your backpack. Remember, digging through it in a fight costs you action points.

C: Pulls up your stat sheet to see how awesome you are.

B: Quick switch between your main gear and your backup without costing you in a scrap.

N: Shuffle through different ways to use your gear.

M: Toggles how your mouse works if you need a change.

Essentials & Quick Access:

Z: Take a breather and rest up—when you’re not in the middle of a battle or in a spot where you can’t.

A: Start a fight when you’re feeling confrontational.

S: Check out your full list of abilities.

O Key or Esc: Hit the brakes and bring up the main pause menu.

P: Peek at your Pipboy for all that vital wasteland info…

Tab Key: Get a bird’s-eye view of your immediate surroundings with the local map.

Combo Keys for More Control:

Ctrl + Q or Ctrl + X: When you’ve had enough and want to leave the game.

Ctrl + P: Freeze the action for a moment, without popping up the whole pause menu.

Ctrl + S: Save your journey so you don’t lose your progress.

Ctrl + L: Load up a saved game to retry or revisit.

Ctrl + M: End combat when you’ve decided to stop fighting.

Chatting Up the Locals:

Esc Key: Close any chat or deal you’re not into anymore.

Arrow Keys: Scroll through what you’ve got when you’re trading.

Numbers 0 to 9: Pick what to say when chatting with the locals.

A: Ask questions to get the lowdown.

B: Time to trade? Hit this to barter.

Game Settings & Extras:

F6: Quick save for when you’re about to do something risky.

F7: Quick load to jump back if things didn’t go as planned.

Plus/Minus Keys: Adjust the screen brightness for those late-night gaming sessions…
