Heroes of Might and Magic 2 PC Controls & Hotkeys

Heroes of Might and Magic… you’ve probably heard of this turn-based strategy game series if you were born before the 2000s. It had a huge impact on gaming, similar to how the Age of Empires series did. The series really became a cult favorite with its third game, but the second game is also loved by many. It paved the way for the success of the third game.

Even years later, the second and third games still have a large player base and continue to receive updates through mods, including new towns, spells, units, and more. Knowing that this game is still playable for both new and returning players, we’ve created this quick reference guide. It lists all the PC keyboard controls and hotkeys for Heroes of Might and Magic 2. Make sure to bookmark it for future reference.

Keyboard Shortcuts & Hotkeys

General

Tab: Switch to the next hero that still has moves left.

M: Keep your hero moving without additional clicks.

K: Get an overview of your kingdom, like towns, mines, gold, and daily income.

C: Open your current hero’s spellbook to cast a spell.

E: Finish your turn and pass the baton to the next player.

A: Access the Adventure Options for various in-game actions.

F: Check out File Options for saving and other document-related tasks.

O: Dive into System Options to tweak game settings, including audio and game speed.

Arrow Keys: Steer your current hero around.

Ctrl + Arrow Keys: Scan the map’s surroundings.

Esc: Back out or say no when asked.

Enter/Return: Confirm, accept, or say yes to prompts.

Left Arrow/Right Arrow: Flip through your heroes, towns, or spellbook pages when applicable.

Under the Adventure Options:

V: Peek at the world map, limited to places you’ve discovered.

P: Look at the puzzle map that points your hero to the Ultimate Artifact.

I: Pull up the Scenario Info with details like story, goals, and win/lose conditions.

D: Dig where your hero stands in hopes of finding the Ultimate Artifact. It uses up all movement for the turn.

For File Options:

N: Start a fresh game.

L: Load a game you’ve saved before.

S: Save your progress under a chosen name.

Q: Exit the game and go back to your desktop.

Hero and Town Commands:

H: Find your heroes with the Hero Locator and cycle through them with extra presses.

T: Activate the Town Locator to browse your towns similarly.

Enter/Return: Bring up details about the active hero or town.
