HOW TO PERFORM A DROP STEP IN NBA 2K23
Also known as a reverse pivot, the Drop Step is a move in which you post up, take a step back on the side behind your defender, and spin to gain an advantage before finally taking a shot. Here are the steps you need to follow in order to execute a drop step:
PLAYSTATION 4 & 5
- Hold the L2 button to post up and continue to back down the defender to see his position. If you’re backing down and the defender is covering the right side, tap Square to do a drop step. You can then hold Square to take the shot.
XBOX ONE & SERIES X | S
- Hold the LT button and continue to back down the defender to see his position. If you’re backing down and the defender is covering the right side, tap X to do a drop step. You can then hold X to take the shot.
When using the drop step, you will usually step toward the baseline, but you want your defender to think that you could go either direction. Remember that it’s important to get the timing right, otherwise you will end up doing skyhooks over and over.
ADVANTAGES OF USING A DROP STEP
- A Drop Step is a powerful move because it seals your defender and lets you safely approach the basket. Even if they try to contest it, the imminent contact with your body will earn them a shooting foul long before they can reach your shot.
- If timed perfectly, and if the defender collides with your player, you will score points and get a free throw from the foul.
