How to Steal and Pickpocket in Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
In Might and Magic VII, characters with the Stealing skill can steal from shops or nonhostile creatures. To steal, simply Ctrl-click on the item or creature from which you wish to take.
Factors That Facilitate Stealing
The success of stealing attempts depends on several factors:
- Higher Stealing skill level of your character.
- Greater expertise level in the Stealing skill.
- Higher reputation of your party.
- Lower cost of the item you’re attempting to steal.
- Weaker creatures you’re trying to steal from.
Factors That Make Stealing More Difficult
- Previous failed attempts to steal from the same shop or creature.
- Frequent attempts to steal in the current region.
- Attempting to steal from a tough creature.
- High value of the item you’re trying to steal.
- Attempting to steal a high-value or unique weapon.
Outcomes of Your Stealing Attempts
Depending on whether you succeed or fail, outcomes vary:
Success:
Shop: You acquire the item.
Creature: There is a chance you will receive a random reward: 40% chance of getting nothing 30% chance of getting an item carried by the creature (or gold if the creature carries nothing) 30% chance of getting Gold = (Stealing skill) x (Skill Rank). Skill Ranks are: normal = 2, expert = 4, master = 6, grand master = 10
Failure:
Shop: You might still get the item, but you’ll be barred from the shop for 24 hours.
Creature: The creature will react negatively, and you’ll incur a fine proportional to the creature’s toughness or the item’s value. The tougher the creature or more valuable the item, the higher the fine.
Handling Fines
You must pay any fines at a town hall to enter a castle without risk. If you attempt to enter a castle while having an outstanding fine, the castle guards will deduct the fine from your available funds and bank account. If you don’t have enough gold, your party will be incarcerated.
Considering the potential consequences of failed thefts, keep these tips in mind:
- Save Your Game: Always save your game before attempting a steal. If you fail multiple times, it’s likely that your character lacks the necessary skill to succeed.
- Improve Your Skills and Reputation: Try again later if your character improves their Stealing level or if your party’s reputation gets better.
