Useful Tips & Tricks

1. Know Your Playstyle and Own It

Understanding your playstyle is crucial to success in Madden. Whether you love running or passing, tailor your approach to fit your strengths:

Run the Ball: If running is your go-to, pick a playbook with strong running schemes and use a team that complements this style, like the Dallas Cowboys, one of the best running teams.

Pass the Ball: If passing is your strength, consider teams like the New England Patriots or the Green Bay Packers, known for their efficient passing attacks.

Pro Tip: Don’t let trash talk get to you. If someone complains about your team choice, it’s likely because they’re losing!

2. Read the Defense

Man Coverage: If defenders are close to your receivers, the coverage is likely man-to-man.

Zone Coverage: If defenders are further back, they’re likely playing zone coverage.

Adjust your plays accordingly to exploit these defensive setups.

3. Don’t Force the Ball

It’s better to take a sack than throw an interception. Giving possession to your opponent can be a game-changer, so play it safe if no options are available.

4. Use Aggressive Blocking Sparingly

Only enable the aggressive blocking option when absolutely necessary, as it significantly increases the chances of offensive holding penalties.

5. Audible When Necessary

If you’re unsure about the play you’ve called:

Press X/Square to audible and switch to another play within the same formation.

This flexibility can help you adapt to your opponent’s setup.

6. Protect the Ball

When controlling a running back or receiver, hold the right shoulder button (R1/RB) to secure the ball, especially if you anticipate a tackle. This reduces the chance of fumbling.

7. Make Defensive Plays

Extending for Tackles: If your defender is blocked but the ball carrier runs nearby, press:

Left Shoulder Button (L1/LB): If the carrier is running to the right.

Right Shoulder Button (R1/RB): If the carrier is running to the left.

This helps you grab at the ball carrier and potentially stop their run.

Choose and Control a Defender: Take control of one defender to move freely on defense. However, stick to your assignment—leaving a receiver uncovered can lead to a disaster.
