Might and Magic 8: Resting and Food Guide

Make sure your characters get some rest and healing (also called camping) at least once every 24 hours.

If they don’t, they’ll get weak. When they rest and heal, it brings back lost Hit Points and Spell Points, and fixes many problems. Your characters can rest in a safe spot where no bad guys are close by. Pick a place to camp that will stay safe for eight hours. If bad guys stumble upon your sleeping group, you’ll have to fight them with just one character until the others wake up from being attacked or someone uses the Awaken spell. Camping works in a pinch, but you should head to Taverns for safe, relaxing nights when you can.

Healing and resting require enough food to set up camp. The amount of food needed depends on the terrain where the party stands when they choose to camp. Without camping, food consumption happens at a rate of one unit per day. Following Table shows how much food camping uses based on the type of terrain.

Food Use by Terrain Type

Terrain Food Use
Grass 1
Dirt 2
Road 2
Inside 2
Snow 3
Marsh 3
Wasteland 4
Desert 5

As you walk from one area to another, you consume food. When you reach the edge of a region map, a screen displays the number of days needed to get to the next area. During your journey, you use one food unit per day and if you have sufficient food for the trip, your characters will appear well-rested, like they’ve made camp. If not, they’ll show up Weak.
