Might and Magic VII: The Elf-Human War Walkthrough (Choosing the Path of Light or Dark)

Upon entering Harmondale after rescuing the Dwarves on behalf of Hothfarr, the “war clock” starts, triggering a series of timed events. Once there, it’s crucial to complete as many secondary and promotion quests as possible to gain experience and gold before returning to Harmondale.

Diplomacy in the Throne Room

Once back in Harmondale, head straight to your castle and proceed to the throne room. There, you’ll find Lady Ellen Rockway, representing the Humans, and Alain Hani of the Elves. Both deliver invitations from their rulers, Queen Catherine of Erathia and King Eldrich Parson of the Tularean Forest, drawing you into a territorial dispute over Harmondale.

Meeting with King Parson

Travel to the Tularean Forest as swiftly as possible. Upon arrival, meet with King Parson in his castle in Pierpont. The King will ask you to steal fort plans from Fort Riverstride in Erathia, giving you a month to complete this mission. However, you shouldn’t rush off to Erathia immediately.

Rescue Mission

Before embarking on King Parson’s task, make your way to the Tularean Caves, situated at the northeastern corner of the Tularean Forest region. Inside the caves, you should rescue the Erathian agent, Loren Steel.

Stealing the Fort Plans

Travel to Erathia, preferably on foot via Harmondale. You’ll pass through Riverstride Fort at Erathia’s eastern edge. Retrieve the plans for King Parson. The plans are hidden on the lower level of the fort, behind a painting of Queen Catherine. Access the lower level through a secret door in the storage room filled with crates.

Meeting with Queen Catherine

After securing the plans, head to Castle Gryphonheart, on the hill overlooking the town of Steadwick, to meet Queen Catherine. She will ask you to rescue Loren Steel, who you should have already rescued in step 4. You can claim your reward from Queen Catherine immediately.

The Battle for Gryphonheart’s Trumpet

Re-enter the Tularean Forest two to three months after the war clock starts. A messenger informs you of a battle between the Elves and Humans over an artifact, Gryphonheart’s Trumpet. The artifact is in a chest directly in front of the entrance to the Tularean Caves. Run to the caves and retrieve it as soon as possible.

The Fate of Harmondale

You have three options on how to use the trumpet: give it to Queen Catherine, King Eldrich, or Judge Grey, who lives on the eastern edge of the Harmondale region. If you give the trumpet to Judge Grey, neither the Humans nor the Elves will win the war, and Harmondale will become an independent state under your control. If you don’t act in time, the Humans will secure the trumpet, and they win the conflict by default.

Appointment of a New Arbiter

Four months after the war clock starts, Judge Grey dies of natural causes. Upon entering Harmondale after this event, you’ll be notified that you must choose a new arbiter. In Harmondale Castle, meet the new ambassadors, Ambassador Wright and Ambassador Scale, representing the Wizards of Bracada and the Necromancers of Deyja respectively. They each propose a candidate for the new arbiter: Judge Fairweather and Judge Sleen.

Choosing the Path of Light or Dark

Judge Fairweather resides in the Familiar Place tavern in Bracada, and Judge Sleen is at the Goblin tavern in Deyja. Your choice between them leads you down the Path of Light or Dark respectively. Escort your chosen arbiter to the late Judge Grey’s former home in Harmondale. If you choose Judge Fairweather (the Path of Light), peace returns to the land, and you’re sent to talk to Gavin Magnus in Castle Lambent.

If you select Judge Sleen (the Path of Dark), war erupts, and you’re sent to converse with Archibald Ironfist at the Pit. This choice concludes the second section of your adventure in Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor.
