NBA 2K25 Dunk Guide: Master Every Dunk Type & Contact Dunk Requirements

Even though NBA 2K25 cut some finishing badges, you can still slam home some wild contact dunks. This guide aims to help you perfect your dunks regardless of your player type—whether you have a low or high driving dunk rating, are tall or short, or just picked up the game.

Settings and Choosing Your Dunk Meter

To start go to the settings to customize your HUD. This is where you select your dunk meter and shot meter. You can find these in your animations menu or under features in the main menu. While turning off the shot meter has its benefits; it’s a good idea to keep it on so you can see the dunk meter… You have different meter types like Arrow or Dial, and you should set it to large to improve your timing.

2-Hand Dunks

The two-hand dunk is a basic, reliable move. Run to the hoop and push the right stick up when you enter the paint. This makes your player do back scratchers, quick drops, and other safe dunks.

Controlled Dunks

These dunks give you the choice of which hand to use. Want to dunk with your right hand? Push the right stick up while pressing R2 as you approach the rim. For a left-hand dunk, move the right stick to the top left. This technique helps you score contact dunks without triggering showy animations.

Flashy Dunks

Want to show off?? Sprint to the basket and push the right stick down. This triggers one of the craziest dunks you can do and might even result in a contact dunk. If your move set includes reverses, you can perform reverse dunks this way too.

Spin Dunks

Spin dunks can catch opponents off guard. To execute one; turn the right stick counterclockwise for a right spin or clockwise for a left spin while pressing R2/RT. Another option is; to double-tap Square or X while pointing the right stick in the direction you want to spin.

Eurostep Dunks

You can pull off a Eurostep dunk in two ways. Press Square or X twice with your right stick pointing forward, or move the right stick to the same hand then to the opposite hand while holding R2. This allows you to end with a Eurostep dunk from either hand.

Hopstep Dunks

To start a hopstep dunk, tap Square or X then hold it while pushing your left stick in the direction you want to go. Or you can use the right stick by pointing it down to the left or right to choose your side. This move was powerful in earlier versions, and it’s making a strong comeback in NBA 2K25.

Reverse Dunks

To do reverse dunks, you need the right layup and dunk package… push your right stick toward the baseline to do a reverse dunk from either side. Your player’s layup package can affect how well this move works.

Meter Dunks and Contact Dunk Requirements

Meter dunks are crucial to get those contact dunks. To time the dunk meter, flick the right stick up then hold it down while pressing R2. The best time to start the dunk meter is near the free throw line. You have a few ways to trigger the meter, such as flick up/hold up or flick down/hold down.

Contact Dunk Rating Requirements:

  • Pro Contact Dunks Off Two: 87 driving dunk, 75 vertical

  • Elite Contact Dunks Off Two: 96 driving dunk, 82 vertical

  • Small Contact Dunks: 86 driving dunk, 75 vertical

  • Pro Contact Dunks Off One: 89 driving dunk, 78 vertical

  • Elite Contact Dunks Off One: 99 driving dunk, 90 vertical

  • Small Contact Dunks: 93 driving dunk, 80 vertical

Tall players need different ratings to perform standing contact dunks and alley-oops. These ratings change based on their build and height.

Standing Dunks & Standing Meter Dunks

You can do standing dunks by pressing Square or X while holding R2 near the basket. Your standing dunk quality depends on your court position and how well your opponent guards the inside!!
