Pokemon Moon and Sun - How to Get Easy Shiny Pokemon

Pokémon Sun and Moon predetermine what’s inside of an egg even before you start trying to hatch it. Want to pre-generate a Shiny Pokémon? Here’s how to! First, grab the following Pokémon and items.

Pokémon Needed

Foreign Ditto: You need to trade for a Ditto with a foreign language name on the GTS. Japanese works best, but really any non-North American Ditto will work. Note that 5/6 IV Japanese Dittos are often hacked; do not use hacked Pokémon for this method as it will not work.

Magikarp: Any Magikarp will work. You can find them pretty easily in Alola’s waters.

Goal Pokémon: This is the species that you want to hatch as Shiny. It can be any Pokémon you would like.

Important: The foreign Ditto is the real MVP here. No foreign Ditto = no Shiny.

Items Needed

Destiny Knot: Attach this to your foreign Ditto. You can purchase this for 48 BP at the Battle Royale Dome – fourth counter.

Everstone: Attach this to your Goal Pokémon. You can obtain one from Ilima after re-battling him in Hau’oli City or purchase it for 16 BP at the Battle Royale Dome – second counter.

Shiny Charm (Optional): If you’re not using a foreign Ditto, this can help. You’ll need to complete the Alola Pokédex (excluding Mythical Pokémon) and talk to the Game Director in Heahea City.

Steps to Hatch a Shiny

Save Your Game: Always back up your progress before starting.

Set Up the Nursery: Place the foreign Ditto with the Destiny Knot and a Magikarp in the Nursery.

Get Eggs: Enter the fenced area next to the Nursery, ride Tauros, and run around for 25-50 eggs. Try for a minimum of 30 for a far better chance at a shiny.

Stop Eggs from Spawning: Remove one of the Pokémon currently in the Nursery to prevent other eggs from spawning. This prevents new eggs from overriding any shinies that may come up.

Hatch the Eggs: Now hatch those eggs by using Tauros to zoom around the fenced area.

Check for a Shiny: If no eggs hatch as Shiny, go back to step 1. If you do get a Shiny, note which egg it is, i.e., Egg #21.

Reset Game: Do not save! Turn off your 3DS and then start it up and load your save.

Swap Pokémon in Nursery: Put Ditto with the Destiny Knot and your Goal with the Everstone in the nursery now.

Collect Eggs: Stock eggs up to the same number that you hatched the Shiny Magikarp; in example, Egg #21. For genderless or single-gender Pokémon, get one extra egg (e.g., Egg #22).

Hatch Your Shiny: Hatch the target egg (e.g., Egg #21) for your Shiny Goal Pokémon! If the eggs aren’t right, just decline them until you get the Shiny.
