Post Scriptum - Beginner Tips & Tricks for Squads

Tips and Tricks for Beginners

  • Be friendly and courteous. Greet your squad at the start of the match and let them know that teamwork is essential. Each member should play their role effectively. If anyone prefers to run around aimlessly, ask them to leave the squad.

  • Inform your squad which MSPs they should spawn from. If someone isn’t following this, you can say something like, “Hey Johnny, please spawn at the southern MSP next time so we can work together.” If the player continues to ignore this, remove them from the squad through the loadout screen.

  • Ask the squad to stay relatively close together. Explain that sticking together helps medics keep everyone alive, benefiting both the individual and the team. Remove any lone wolves or non-compliant players as needed.

  • Use your binoculars to call out targets for your squad. Press (T) to mark targets such as enemy infantry or armor. Press (Y) for compass bearings or use clock positioning (e.g., “Germans spotted at 2 o’clock!”).

  • Remember to use your smoke grenades to cover advances, especially over open ground. Your squadmates also carry smoke grenades. Be cautious with white phosphorus as it can cause harm!

  • Remind medics periodically to stay safe. They can provide general security in close quarters but should avoid engaging targets more than 30 meters away. If they frequently get into firefights, suggest switching to the rifleman role. Medics are crucial for maintaining squad cohesion.

  • Use your (T) marks to issue general orders such as “regroup at this position,” “dig in here,” or “attack here.” You can also do this on the map by right-clicking.

  • When you die as the Squad Leader (SL), stay by the MSP for a few moments to gather squadmates before heading into battle. It’s important that they stick together rather than trickling into the objective. However, if manpower is urgently needed at the frontlines, use your best judgment.

  • Raise morale! If your team is doing a great job, let them know. For example, “Medics, you’re doing a fantastic job! Keep it up!” or “Johnny, nice shot on those Krauts!” Recognize their efforts to encourage continued teamwork and boost confidence.

  • Communicate with other SLs and the commander about your overall strategy, then relay this information to your squad. For example, “Command wants us to rush the point! GO GO GO!” or “Command is sending a strafing run, stay back!”

  • Use your map frequently. You might want to set a new keybind for it (e.g., tab for the scoreboard, M for the map, and caps lock for map zoom). Right-click on the map to mark targets and issue orders to your squad. I check my map every few seconds—don’t go without it!

  • Have fun. As an SL, you’re a crucial part of the game. A good SL makes a huge difference in the gameplay experience for your team. Avoid berating squadmates; instead, offer helpful advice to help them become better team players.
