Rule the Waves 3: Prestige
Prestige in the game represents your reputation, which is determined by your successes, decisions, and management skills. It’s a measure of your standing with the Monarch/President, politicians, officer corps, and other parts of the establishment. You can think of prestige as a form of currency that you can spend to influence various events impacting your plans or the Navy.
How to Earn Prestige:
Prestige is primarily earned through naval victories and your responses to events. Assertive and decisive responses often enhance your prestige. Additionally, managing the navy effectively and successfully executing naval battles can significantly contribute to your prestige.
Effects of Low Prestige:
If your prestige falls below 16, you risk removal from your position as Grand Admiral, resulting in a loss of the game. It’s crucial to maintain a decent level of prestige to secure your position and ensure the success of your tenure.
Prestige as Victory Points:
At the end of the game, your prestige serves as a form of victory points, serving to evaluate your career as head of the Navy. Declining battles can cost you victory points. If you decline several battles, your prestige may decrease as well. The enemy might decline a battle if they believe they can’t assemble a force with a reasonable chance of winning.
How to Manage Prestige:
- Choose Battles Wisely: Participating in battles where you’re confident of victory can boost your prestige. However, repeatedly declining battles can harm your prestige.
- Adopt Assertive Responses: Assertive responses to in-game events often lead to an increase in prestige.
- Effective Management: Proper management of the navy and making sound decisions can prevent mismanagement, which could reduce your prestige.
- Prestige Spending: Consider your prestige as a form of currency and use it wisely to influence events. However, be aware that using it carelessly may lead to a decrease in prestige and risk losing the game.
- Preserve High Prestige: When your prestige is high, adverse events may cause a larger reduction in your prestige. Be aware that this system is balanced in such a way that high prestige can be a double-edged sword.
