SpaceBourne 2 Capital Ships: The Ultimate Guide
The 1.6.0 update introduces Capital Ships to the game, and this guide will help you understand everything you need to know to command and conquer using these behemoths. From obtaining a Capital Ship to customizing, upgrading, and using them in battle, we’ve got you covered.
Obtaining a Capital Ship
You can purchase the Capital Ship Xanthean at most stations equipped with a Ship Console, except for sectors controlled by the Mortha faction (their territory is marked with a blue name on the Galaxy Map). To buy a Capital Ship, you must have advanced far enough in the game’s Main Storyline to have at least three companions with you.
Boarding your Capital Ship
Once you have acquired your Capital Ship, you can board it by interacting with the elevator underneath it. The ship has a basic interior, and your crew members will also be inside your ship. Their position within the ship is based on the role you assigned to them in the crew screen.
Weapon Systems
Capital ships possess distinct weapon systems compared to small fighters. They do not have weapon groups, and currently, they are equipped with two types of weapons: big cannons and auto-turrets.
- Big Cannons: These are the primary guns of Capital Ships. They inflict massive damage but have a slow fire rate and can be quite inaccurate. They are most effective against large enemies, such as enemy stations.
- Auto-Turrets: These low-DPS, rapid-firing turrets automatically shoot at targets within range, whittling down enemy fighters so you can concentrate on larger or higher priority targets.
Capital Ship Perks
They also come with their own unique Perks. They have no Missile slots, but they do have a Cluster Barrage Perk, which launches multiple guided missiles toward enemies. There’s also the Distortion Charge Perk, creating an EMP explosion that slows enemy ships and deals damage over time for a short while.
Upgrading and Customizing Capital Ships
Xanthean uses the same internal components as small ships, but their specific parameters and component slots can vary between each ship of the same model. They are also affected by Tier and Level. You can upgrade your Capital Ship just like small ships, but it is important to note that the Ship Upgrading system is still in development and can sometimes cause issues. Always make a backup save first and keep an eye on your ship values closely.
Capital Ships currently do not have different skins and cannot be painted yet. However, this may change in the future as the developers update the game.
Docking
Capital Ships can only dock at specific Stations that can support them. They cannot dock at Guild Stations or Outposts but they can dock at larger stations. To dock with your Capital Ship, use the “Docking Request” feature through the Comms interface and move towards the assigned landing pad. If a station does not reply to your Docking Request or if an error message is shown, the station does not have a large-sized landing pad for Capitals.
Controlling a Capital Ship
Controlling a Capital Ship is similar to controlling a Fighter, but they are larger and more sluggish. The main difference between Fighters and Capitals is how they behave in battle. With Capital Ships, you get a targeting reticule for each pair of installed Big Cannons, allowing you to fire multiple volleys at different targets simultaneously. Keep in mind that Capital Ships are much slower and less maneuverable than Fighters, so positioning and timing are critical in combat.
Combat Tactics
Here are some strategies to maximize your Capital Ship’s effectiveness in battle:
- Focus on Large Targets: Use your Big Cannons to target enemy Capital Ships or stations. Their slow fire rate and high damage output make them ideal for dealing with large, slow-moving targets.
- Deploy Distortion Charges Strategically: Use your Distortion Charges to disable enemy ships or create a safe zone for your allies. Be mindful of the recharge time and try to make the most out of each deployment.
- Maintain Your Distance: Capital Ships aren’t very agile, so it’s best to stay at a safe distance from enemy ships, particularly fast-moving Fighters. Utilize your Auto-Turrets to handle smaller threats while you concentrate on bigger targets.
- Guard Your Flanks: Capital Ships are susceptible to attacks from behind or the sides. Attempt to position yourself in a way that minimizes your exposure to enemy fire.
- Coordinate with Allies: If you’re playing with a team/AI companions, ensure you coordinate your attacks and take advantage of your combined firepower.
SpaceBourne 2 Future Updates

Expect improvements in ship customization, interior design, and possibly new Capital Ship models. It’s essential to stay up-to-date with the game’s development to make the most of these colossal vessels.
