Starfield: Workbench Crafting Essentials

Workbenches let you craft items using resources and other items in your Inventory. In order to craft a recipe, you must have the required amount of resources and materials to do it. There are numerous different workbenches that are used to craft different things:

• Spacesuit Workbench – Can craft and upgrade equipment, and install equipment modifications.

• Weapon Workbench – Can craft and upgrade weapons, and install weapon mods.

• Cooking Station – Can cook food, drinks, and meals.

• Pharmaceutical Lab – Can craft chems and aid items.

The necessary materials required to craft an item are shown on the right side of the screen when an item is selected in a workstation. If you have the required materials, you can craft an item by highlighting it and pressing [E].

You can keep track of materials you need for a workbench project by using the “Track” function. At a workbench, simply select the recipe you want, and press [R]. Doing this will keep track of all the materials you need to complete the recipe. If you come across a tracked material while exploring, it will show a blue magnifying glass next to its name to show that it is a material that’s needed for the recipe you are tracking.

Many skills in the “Science” category are helpful (and sometimes necessary) when crafting. Most craftable items must first have their recipe unlocked through research.
