TOP 10 Free PC Video Games You Should Play In 2022

Games are getting expensive; not everyone has $60 or $70 to spend every time a new game comes out. It’s a struggle out here. Luckily, we have free (to-play) games that are constantly updated and offer plenty of content. Free games are just as good or even better than full-priced games but are heavy on microtransactions. As long as it is cosmetic only and provides no gameplay benefits, then I see nothing wrong with it.

The following list contains the top free games that you should play in 2022. Without further ado, onto the list.

Halo Infinite (Multiplayer)

Who would have thought one of Microsoft’s flagship titles would be free-to-play? I sure didn’t. When it was announced that the multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite would be free-to-play, there were some concerns. Turns out, we can be those concerns to rest. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is fun, no doubt about it. Some issues need to be addressed, but those can be fixed with a patch or two. With Forge releasing sometime later this year, players can expect great community maps and wild game modes.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile has been around since 2013, and it is still going strong. It is one of the few ARPGs that can go toe-to-toe with the Diablo series. The game isn’t in your face with microtransactions, either. Buying stash tabs is almost mandatory if you want to hoard items for other characters or trade if you’re on a console. Everything else is purely cosmetic that offers no gameplay advantages. If you are looking for a free ARPG with deep character customization, insanely fast gameplay, and a fantastically grim world, then this might be the game for you.

Fortnite

Ahh, Fortnite! No free-to-play list is complete without this behemoth. Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world and probably the biggest battle royale video game to date. While Fortnite was a defense/horde game, in the beginning, it quickly turned into the giant it is today. The battle royale mode was an addition to the main game. Epic Games had other plans and made it the main game.

Fortnite is a game with an absurd amount of updates. Each season comes with new maps, vehicles, and weapons. Along with these updates come events and plenty of skins and characters, spanning from the TV to comics. Fortnite is a great game to quickly get a few matches in. Whether you are a casual or hardcore gamer, I’m sure you will have a blast.

Smite

Choose your god and battle it out in this third-person action MOBA. With over 100 gods and deities from different pantheons to select from, you’re bound to find someone you love. Smite offers various game modes, from chaotic and wild, to competitive matches like conquest. Compared to other MOBAs, Smite’s games are slightly on the shorter side, allowing for quick games to be played. Making it perfect to give it a try.

Paladins

Paladins is an objective-based team first-person hero shooter. If you have played Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch, then you will feel right at home on Paladins. There are currently over 50 champions to play. Each champion can also be tailored to your play style by building the character deck. Cards can completely change how champions play. With a lot of champions to play and maps to play on, you can find a lot of fun with Paladins.

Splitgate

Splitgate is what would happen if Halo and Portal could have a baby. A lot of the gameplay is a throwback to Halo. But, with the portal system, creating portal points on certain terrain adds a whole other layer to the game. You can flank enemies almost instantly by putting a portal behind them or even shooting through the portal from your safe space. Splitgate recently had a surge in players that the developers had to update their servers. If you are a fan of Halo and want something just a bit different, Splitgate has got you covered.

Warframe

Ever wanted to be a space ninja? Well, Warframe is probably the closest thing you will get to that. Warframe is not the same game it used to be when it was first released in 2013. It featured enough content to level up your warframes and grind for armor pieces here and there. Levels consisted of small areas to either kill all enemies or defend your objective for many waves.

As of 2022, Warframe currently has a new, beautiful open world that can be explored. Warframe is also one of the most friendly free-to-play games. Mostly everything can be earned in-game, and the premium currency can be traded with other players.

Call of Duty: Warzone

Much like Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, no one expected a free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale. However, it has worked out in Activision’s favor. Call of Duty: Warzone is Call of Duty’s second iteration of the battle royale genre. The first was Blackout in Black Ops 4. Call of Duty Warzone takes the fast-paced, hectic combat of multiplayer and places you against hundreds of other players on a giant map. Collecting loot and cash to get your perfect loadout is the main way to win. Call of Duty: Warzone is great for players who love Call of Duty and battle royales.

Apex Legends

Apex Legends is set in the world of Titanfall. What makes Apex Legends different from other battle royale games is the ability to choose a different character. These characters have different skills and an ultimate that can be used to change the tides of battle. Teammates can also be revived, creating some great comebacks. The core mechanics of the game, however, is still similar to other battle royales and shooters that anyone should be able to pick up and play.

Rocket League

Rocket League is a hybrid of arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem. It can take some time to get used to the game, but Rocket League offers some adrenaline-fueled matches. Trying to move a huge ball into the opponent’s goal using a much smaller car is hilarious and fun. Matches are only 5 minutes, making it easy to get bite-sized fun out of it, making it perfect for playing a quick match before school or work.

Conclusion

You can expect these free games to continue to thrive this year because of the constant updates and massive following. Not only that, most of the games on this list are great for casual and hardcore players. They have a little something for everyone. So, if you haven’t tried one of these games yet, there is no better time than now.
