TOP 5 New Upcoming Looter Shooter Games of 2022 & 2023
/The Looter Shooter genre is full of games that provide hours upon hours of constant enjoyment. Borderlands, largely considered by many to be the creator of the genre, recently had a spinoff release with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. I’m sure this game is still keeping players engaged a few short weeks after its release, but what do we have to look forward to after that?
That’s the question I aim to answer with this list of upcoming looter shooter games for the rest of this year. So, if you’re a fan of borderlands, battle royales, or just looting and/or shooting, there will probably be something to look forward to on this list.

Project Magnum
Announced in July of 2021, NAT Games’ Project Magnum (obviously a working title) looks to be a fully-realized sci-fi looter shooter/live service game in the same vein as Destiny. Its very impressive reveal trailer shows impressive graphics, a massive, imposing sphere, and combat against mechs, robots, and armored warriors.
It doesn’t have a solid release date, but it is projected to be available by the end of 2022. It will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, with more potential platforms being announced before release.

ARC Raiders
Another upcoming sci-fi looter shooter is Arc Raiders, which is being developed and published by Embark Studios. This game is going to be a free-to-play co-op looter shooter experience that puts a focus on squad tactics in the face of an encroaching robotic threat. Released gameplay footage is reminiscent of Star Wars, Terminator, and EDF, all of which are great inspirations to have when you’re making a new IP. And, since it’s free-to-play, it’ll be open to everyone! I’m really looking forward to this one.
ARC Raiders is scheduled for release this year, though little news has come out for it since its announcement. When it does launch, it will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The Day Before
Developed by FNTASTIC and published by MYTONA, The Day Before appears to be The Last of Us, but expanded into an MMO. It features a dour post-apocalyptic setting full of rabid zombies as well as other players who could end up being more hostile towards you than helpful.
Traverse the open-world city on foot or in vehicles and scavenge through abandoned buildings, cars, and homes to find the equipment you need to survive. It’s a looter shooter in the most literal sense of the phrase. Take your loot back to your survivor colony, where you can sell things, repair equipment, and prepare for your next journey out in addition to communicating with other players safely.
The Day Before looks really impressive, especially coming from a studio that has only released smaller projects up to this point. I can’t wait to get my hands on it when it launches for Xbox consoles, PlayStation 5, and PC on June 21st, 2022.

Earth’s Shadow
Earth’s Shadow is a sci-fi dungeon crawling looter shooter that is being developed and published by WRF Studios. It combines a unique visual style with an interesting, organic overworld, immersing players in the game’s story.
Set in 3081, Earth’s Shadow combines retro sci-fi stylings with horror elements to create an atmosphere like no other game I’ve seen recently. The gameplay trailer shows tight gunplay against all kinds of enemies, from hulking goliaths to long-legged spider robots.
The game boasts both procedurally generated and custom-designed locations with randomized loot, ensuring no two runs are the same. All of the weapons and equipment you find will also have dynamic stats to increase variability.
Earth’s Shadow is scheduled to launch into Steam Early Access on June 30th, with a full release towards the end of the year. This one is flying under the radar, but the gameplay trailer reminded me a lot of Returnal, another awesome game.

The Cycle: Frontier
Another free-to-play looter shooter is The Cycle: Frontier, which is being developed and published by YAGER. This gorgeous PvPvE looter shooter puts you in the shoes of a Prospector, a mercenary who drops onto the surface of Fortuna III in hopes of returning home with riches beyond belief.
The planet definitely has those riches, but they will not be easily taken. Fortuna III’s native inhabitants are actively hostile towards newcomers, and fellow Prospectors will kill you to take anything you’ve collected.
Fight off both threats with an arsenal full of different kinds of upgradeable weapons and gadgets. You can also return to your quarters in Prospect Station, where you can sell your goods and prepare for the next drop.
Conclusion
As you can see, there are a bunch of awesome looter shooters to look forward to for the rest of this year, and these are just a few of those options.
