TOP 5 Upcoming Survival Games of 2022 and Beyond

The shot of adrenaline that you get from playing a survival game is an experience that is unmatched in just about any other genre of video game. Starting with nothing in a hostile place, gathering crafting materials while fighting off all manner of creatures, and struggling to stay alive while you craft supplies and a home base is a gameplay loop that has been used and reused and somehow still manages to be compelling every single time. And while there have been many games to use this formula in the past, there are even more coming our way very soon. Let’s take a look at the Top 5 Upcoming Survival Games of 2022 and Beyond.

  1. The Day Before

First, we have the open-world survival MMO The Day Before by developer Fntastic. Visually, it seems to be inspired by Naughty Dog’s end of the world survival epic The Last of Us, and it takes place in a post-pandemic America that has been overrun by a zombie plague. You play as one of the few survivors as they scavenge for supplies, weapons, and vehicles by risking their lives exploring abandoned houses, vehicles, and even skyscrapers that all have a high probability of being infested with hungry infected humans. When you inevitably do come across infected, fight them off with realistic weapons in cover-based combat. To store all of your loot, you will have to establish a home base with other players where you will be able to trade and communicate safely. Help restore society before it’s too late when The Day Before arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on June 21st, 2022.

  1. System Shock Redux

The highly anticipated remake of a classic sci-fi survival game is finally making its way to us with System Shock Redux by Nightdive Studios. This first-person survival classic features updated, worthy next-gen graphics and more advanced, ruthless enemy AI. All of the weapons from the original game have also been remade in terms of their 3D models and also how they function. System Shock Redux also features brand new equipment like the Mapping Unit, which will allow you to chart all 9 levels of Citadel Station with high accuracy, the Biological Systems Monitor, which is used to keep track of your health and energy levels, and the Multimedia Data Reader, which allows you to experience the chilling final moments of the doomed crew. Experience a beloved classic rebuilt from the ground up when System Shock Redux releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2022.

  1. Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl

Play as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. once more and dive back into the Zone with Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl by GSC Game World. This sequel to the beloved Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl and its many expansions has you playing as the titular S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s again, which are treasure hunters who explore the highly irradiated land called the Zone. This area is full of dangers, both seen and unseen, but is also full of valuable treasures. This new nonlinear epic story takes place in a seamless open world, built with photorealistic graphics that will fully leverage the power of the new Xbox consoles. Meet members of many factions and decide if they are friend or foe, engage in intense gunfights with more than 30 different weapons, and explore the many branching paths of the game’s story when Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl launches exclusively on Xbox Series X/S on December 8th, 2022.

  1. ARK 2

2015’s ARK: Survival Evolved is finally getting a sequel, and it has some pretty big names attached to it. This new game, Just called ARK 2 at the moment, was announced at The Game Awards in December 2020 and showed a tribe of people fighting dinosaurs and led by…Vin Diesel?!? That’s right, Dominic Toretto himself is present in multiple levels of this production as he stars in it and is also credited as a producer on the game. The developer Studio Wildcard is currently hard at work, making sure that the game shines in terms of fidelity and gameplay on next-gen consoles. Experience a larger, more diverse sandbox survival game when ARK 2 launches on Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2022.

  1. Sons of The Forest

Another sequel to a survival game from the mid-2010’s is Endnight Games’ Sons of The Forest. There is not very much info available on the game at the moment, but just from the trailer, you can tell that you will be facing, even more increasingly horrible fleshy monstrosities than what you had in the first game. It is also unclear what the story will be, but it is expected to pick up after the events of The Forest. Can you survive against a flying monster made entirely of mutated naked humans? Find out when Sons of The Forest lands on PC on May 20th, 2022.
