TOP 7 Best PS5 Single-Player Games of 2022 So Far
/Sony has a history of developing and/or having strong exclusive titles on their systems. Most people probably think it started in the PS3 era. I would say it started with the PS1 and games like Final Fantasy 7. While Final Fantasy 7 did release a year later on PC, it was a big game for Sony and PlayStation. Games such as Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, and Metal Gear Solid were all PlayStation exclusives.
As I said, a person might think it started around the PS3 era, but Sony has been racking up the exclusives since the mid-90s. It may be due to there being fewer consoles at the time, but my point still stands. With the PS5 released a little more than a year ago, now is a perfect time, to sum up, their best single-player games. Some games on this list are also on PS4; however, they also have PS5 exclusive enhancements and upgrades, so I’m including them. Ready? Let’s Go!
Returnal
Returnal is a third-person rogue-like shooter by Housemarque. This game was flying under a lot of most people’s radar for a while. However, when Returnal was released, it became one of PS5’s most talked-about games. Reviews for the game were stellar. Returnal features intense, fast-paced combat, explorations, and crazy gadgets. Here is the thing, you want to know what won the gamers over? The story.
Returnal’s story is a narrative that must be pieced together as you play. Only when you FULLY complete the game will you begin to understand the true meaning of the story. Returnal is a great single-player game, and all PS5 owners should play.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
Marvel’s Spider-Man was Sony and Insomniac’s big hit of 2018. It featured a familiar but well-told story, interesting characters and villains, enjoyable combat, and some of the best web-swinging in any Spider-Man game. With the remaster, we got some exclusive PS5 features and enhancements.
Features such as making use of the Dual Sense’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Using these features increases the immersion even more. With the PS5’s power also comes enhanced visuals, fast loading times, and increased frame rate. If for some strange reason, you missed out on Marvel’s Spider-Man before, getting the remastered version is the best option.
Demon’s Souls
Demon’s Souls is one of the best-looking games on the PS5, if not THE best-looking game on PS5. This action role-playing game took the world by storm when it was first released in 2009 for the PS3. Not only would it spawn its own genre, but it is also the building block for games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne. While Demon’s Souls features the same story narrative and gameplay, it also included some quality of life improvements.
Many people agree that Demon’s Souls on the PS5 is superior to the PS3 original. With the same gameplay, now with a higher frame rate and beautiful graphics, I can understand why it would be hard to go back.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
The Final Fantasy series has always had a tight relationship with Sony and PlayStation. As far as I can remember, I don’t think any part of the series has not been on PlayStation. Well, the same can be said for Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is a remake of one of Square Enix’s most memorable and iconic Final Fantasy games. Well, part of the original Final Fantasy VII. It only covers the Mako Reactor and Midgar.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade offers improved graphics, frame rate, and a new story starring Yuffie Kisaragi.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet & Clank has been a PlayStation stable game since the original was released back in 2002 for the PS2. Platforming games were all the rage during those times. Nowadays, it is rare to see any type of action-platformer for all audiences. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart brought back its classic gameplay with new additions and innovations to make a fantastic game.
The power of the PS5 allowed Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to set itself “apart” from other games in the series. Ratchet & Clank features beautiful Pixar-like visuals, with fast load times to warp to different dimensions and battlefields instantly and a huge arsenal. There have been many Ratchet & Clank games over the past 20 years, but Rift Apart definitely has set the bar high for future Ratchet & Clank games.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut follows the same formula as Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. However, the director’s cut also includes a new island to explore with its own story to uncover. Along with getting extra digital goodies like a digital artbook and in-game skins, the PS5 version gets exclusive features.
If you have a PS5, you can experience increased frame rate, 3D Audio, haptic feedback, and lip sync for Japanese voice-over. The Japanese lip sync is a big one that adds a huge layer of authenticity to such an already authentic game.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Death Stranding has probably one of the weirdest games in recent times. The story was something I’m not entirely sure what it was, honestly. But the game featured big-name actors like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. Death Stranding was probably an overhyped game due to being developed by Hideo Kojima. This was his first game after leaving Konami.
However, Death Stranding had gamers divided once it was released. Some thought it was fun and unique, while others thought it was boring and just a “walking simulator”. You can find out for yourself with the director’s cut. Death Stranding Director’s Cut adds improved combat, new mini-games, more locations, and a variety of weapons. If you were on the fence before, there is no better time to try Death Stranding.
Conclusion
Sony has always been a juggernaut when it comes to exclusives and single-player games. They have acquired a catalog of award-winning developers to help push their systems to the limit and create system sellers. As you can see with this list, Sony is continuing that trend with the PS5. But this is only scratching the surface; they have even more exclusives and single-player games in development. As of now, there are plenty of single-player games to play if you own a PS5.
