TOP 7 New Upcoming Single Player Games to Put on Your Radar

I remember the first time I played through Shadow of the Colossus. I was 11 years old, and I had never seen anything like it up to that point. I’ll never forget the moment I saw the first colossus for the first time; it was simultaneously thrilling, confusing, and terrifying. These lovingly crafted moments meant for one person, while still possible, are few and far between these days, with games like Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone dominating the charts. We have a good number of single-player games coming up, though, so let’s check out the top 7 new upcoming single-player games for 2022.

  1. Sifu

Anybody who grew up watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, or Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa more recently, should be excited for Sifu. This in-depth martial arts brawler is being developed by Sloclap, whose previous game Absolver already had an incredible hand-to-hand combat system. While Sifu doesn’t appear to have Absolver’s massive list of moves, it does have an entirely unique, interesting gameplay conceit in that every time the player “dies”, they respawn where they fell but aged several years. With this aging comes increased power but decreased strength. This take on the roguelike genre is extremely interesting, and you can unleash your martial arts moves when Sifu flying knee kicks its way onto the Epic Games Store for PC and PS5 on February 8th, 2022.

  1. Little Devil Inside

The next game on this list might be flying under the radars of many gamers, but it shouldn’t be. Little Devil Inside is developer Neostream Interactive’s first game, and it’s looking very impressive in the trailers that have been released so far. It appears to be a Monster Hunter-like game where you have a base that you craft items and supplies in, then go to strange locales on your own to hunt specific creatures for your boss. The art style is very distinctive, with a mix of hyper-realistic environments and cartoony characters, and the action/survival gameplay looks engaging. Start your own hunt when Little Devil Inside embarks on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC in Winter 2022.

  1. Hogwarts: Legacy

The newest edition to the Harry Potter franchise is Avalanche Software’s upcoming magical open-world RPG Hogwarts: Legacy. Create your own Hogwarts student and take them on an adventure that spans the halls and classrooms of the titular school, the surrounding forests and villages, and even the mysterious lands beyond. Take your learnings from class and go on adventures to fight trolls, wraiths, and dragons should you be so unlucky. Class is in session when Hogwarts Legacy “revelio”s itself in the third quarter of 2022 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC.

  1. Bayonetta 3

The extremely elusive character action game Bayonetta 3 finally made an appearance in September of 2021 after a multi-year drought of information. There is little information currently available for the title, but the gameplay trailer we got at the September 2021 announcement shows more of the off-the-wall action the series is known for, along with the inclusion of Kaiju battles utilizing your “wicked weaves”. Platinum Games always brings the action, and we can be sure Bayonetta 3 will deliver the insane set pieces they are known for when the game sashays onto the Nintendo Switch exclusively in 2022.

  1. Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokemon’s next entry to the massively popular, international mega-hit series is Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This next game promises to be a huge departure from what the series has come to be known for, as it is going to be a much larger game with several wide-open maps to explore, a revamped combat system, and new ways to fill your Pokédex. There will also be new versions of known Pokémon that have adapted to thrive in the new, frigid lands of the Hisui region. Craft your poke balls and go on a survey mission when Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch on January 28th, 2022.

  1. Elden Ring

One of the most anticipated releases of the last few years is From Software’s Elden Ring, their new project that follows the formula of systems they created with the Dark Souls series. Become the Tarnished and traverse the Lands Between on an adventure that will take you over rolling hills and through dark dungeons crawling with monsters and husks of fallen warriors. You will face creatures that run the gamut from fire-breathing dragons to sentient talking pots while you grow stronger to face the next demigod on your list. Prepare to harness the awesome power of the Elden Ring when it invades PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC on February 25th, 2022.

  1. God of War: Ragnarok

Finally, the biggest release by Sony’s Santa Monica Studios is making its way to their new hardware in the form of God of War: Ragnarok. The continuation of 2018’s reboot/sequel to one of PlayStation’s most recognizable series will follow Kratos and his son Atreus on another adventure through Norse mythology on their quest to find answers before Ragnarok ends their mission and the world along with it. New friends, monsters, and gods await you when God of War: Ragnarok tears into PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime in 2022.

Mike has been playing video games since he was able to hold a controller, having been fascinated by Sonic 2 on his mom’s Sega Genesis. That fascination and passion for the art form has grown exponentially nearly 30 years later, and he doesn’t see that fading away anytime soon.
