TOP 7 Upcoming Racing Games for 2022 & Beyond
2022 is just on the horizon, and it’s going to be an exciting year for racing fans. This list offers titles such as Gran Turismo 7, Grid Legends, and a game similar to Mario Kart that hit the nail on the head. So without wasting any more time, the first entry is an unexpected delight.
Super Impossible Road
Super Impossible is a single & multiplayer action racing game developed by Wonderful lasers Inc. and Gunstone Studios. Here you’ll play as a giant glowing orb constantly spiraling down a randomly generated metal track in the void of space. The game will have you on the edge of your seat as there is no brake or acceleration feature, meaning you cannot stop yourself from rolling.
The game is unique, futuristic, and its nostalgic techno music from the PlayStation era fits perfectly. In the beginning, you’ll find this game to be extremely hard as there is no learning phase to teach you how the game is played. You’ll find yourself falling off the track repeatedly before you adjust to Impossible road’s playstyle.
Super Impossible Roads will be published by Wonderful Lasers Inc and Rogue Games in 2022 for the Playstation 5 and 4, Xbox One and series X, and PC. But the game is already available for Nintendo Switch users.
Grid Legends
Grid Legends is a single & multiplayer Racing game developed by Codemasters. This game is a beautiful title that takes a traditional and professional approach to the racing genre. It’s the 5th installment in the Grid series, and this time it offers 130 tracks, including real-life circuits and tracks in various cities around the world.
You’ll feel fully in control of your vehicle even at 190mph due to the game’s highly responsive controls. AI is also something to boast about in Grid and will always provide a challenge. Codemasters has implemented a nemesis system with AI-controlled cars becoming more aggressive if you bump them too many times. They’ll try to clip you and knock you off the track, and they’ll be even more challenging on higher difficulties. But despite the annoyance they can provide, it does bring life to the races.
The game also has a hop-in feature that allows friends to join your single-player races and take control of one of the AI competitors. Electronic Arts will publish the game on February 25, 2022, for the Xbox one and series X, Playstation 4 and 5, and the pc.
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown
Test Drive Unlimited is a game for players who like the luxurious underground approach to racing games. The setting is in Hong Kong Island, and it’s said to be the spitting image of the actual location, meaning there will be left-hand traffic. The story follows the feud between two clans, the streets and the sharps.
Players will pick a side before rising through the ranks with the end goal of eliminating their rivals. Each clan offers its own unique choices and starter vehicles. And players have the option of progressing through the game at whatever pace they like. But of course, progression will unlock new features and more luxurious cars.
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown will be published by Nacon and BIGBEN INTERACTIVE in September 2022 for the Xbox one and series X, Playstation 4 & 5, the Nintendo Switch, and the PC.
Gran Turismo 7
Gran Turismo 7 is one of the most celebrated racing simulator series in the world, and it holds the title of Playstations best-selling exclusive property. The eighth installment in the series offers nearly photo-realistic graphics, 420 cars, and over 90 tracks to race on. The developers at Polyphony Digital have even designed a racing wheel perfect for Gran Turismo 7. And it only strengthens the game’s incredibly realistic feel.
Gran Turismo 7 will be published by Sony Interactive on March 4, 2022, and will be an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4 & 5. And although the Single-player campaign (GT Mode) is returning, most of the game will be online only. This game is a single/ multiplayer sports racing simulator developed by Polyphony Digital.
MX Vs. ATV Legends
If you prefer a more extreme and dangerous approach to racing, MX vs. ATV legends is a game to consider. It’s an offroad racing game that takes players across beautiful landscapes and rough terrain. Rainbow Studios has improved many aspects of the game from the previous title, MX vs. ATV All Out, such as a greater sense of inertia and weight for its vehicles. And a fantastic returning feature is the drone cam.
Your choices in career mode can affect your path, sponsorship opportunities and can even get you into special invitation-only events. The game also features two-player split-screen and 16-player squad-based online gameplay. THQ Nordic will publish the game on December 31, 2022, for the Xbox One and Series X, Playstation 4 & 5, and the PC.
Kartrider Drift
NEXON Korea has answered all of your prayers. They’ve developed a kart racing game similar to Mario Kart 8. And although Kartrider takes inspiration from the popular title, it feels like its own game. Kartrider drift was well received over in Asia, and although NEXON America will publish Kartrider in 2022, you can access the game now in its early stages.
The visuals are very cartoony, with vibrant colors and cutesy avatars. In the place of item boxes are acorns that reward players with random unique and sometimes devastating items such as nitrous, ice and water bombs, missiles, and barricades. And if non of that has sold you, the game is free-to-play, anti-play-to-win, and offers crossplay between the Xbox One, PS4, and the PC.
Forza Motorsport 8
If you haven’t heard of Forza, it’s an incredibly popular and realistic racing sim that’s been around for a while. This time around, Turn 10 Studios has improved a lot towards making their simulation as realistic as possible. And they’ve taken community and professional feedback to bring the game further than it’s ever gone.
You’ll notice seemingly photo-realistic graphics, an improved and responsive tire, and suspension physics system, and drifting that’s cleaner than ever before. Xbox Game Studios will publish the game sometime in 2022 as an exclusive title for next-gen Microsoft consoles and windows.
Conclusion
There’s a lot of variety in 2022 besides the conventional racing games. And it’s exciting to finally have a good kart racing game that isn’t locked to Nintendo. But what did you think about the entries on this list; did any pique your interest?
