Turkish Gaming Industry Boom: PC & Console Games Fueling Explosive Growth

The Turkish gaming market is completely blowing up currently!! Hypercasual & casual trends on mobile by the likes of Peak and Gram Games dominated the mobile market and prospered, but PC and console games are also starting to take flight now. Well post-pandemic, mobile gaming just sorta plateaued, and a lot of the smaller devs who couldn’t keep up transitioned into PC & console development.

Turkey has been developing games for decades, but the last two years? Crazy rush. Everybody’s aboard – everybody but, naturally: the real GOATs, the industry titans. Case in point: Mount & Blade: Bannerlord. This open-world medieval RPG, built ON ITS OWN ENGINE, is amongst the greatest ever medieval games played. But listen -> Turkey’s never actually built a AAA title yet. Bannerlord probably is excellent quality but not necessarily so AAA in scale, but AAA full production? Not yet.

Black State however, could be the difference. If this sells well enough, it will be Turkey’s first true attempt at AAA. Kabus 22‘s Kadir Demirden returns and this time has joined forces with NVIDIA to develop a game that quite literally plays on another level. The trailers and tech demos -> Full chef’s kiss. It’s Matrix-like mysterious world, secret society The Architects, and tons of potential.

And it’s not just RPGs. On the sim side – games like Supermarket Simulator are selling like hotcakes – and yeah it’s as crazy and wild as it sounds. But again, like I mentioned, Turkish developers no longer confine themselves to two or three genres. They’re creating games all over, and cracking consoles (Mayhem Brawler) now even! Another colossal reason for this boom? Increasingly more publishers & mentors stepping in to help out Turkish developers.

Groups such as GameDev IST are boots-on-the-ground supporting indie teams to get the game tidied up and pushed live. Literally that type of support is utterly transforming the industry: sustaining the boom.
