Victoria 3: Eras
Eras are like a rough guide to when different ideas and inventions popped up in history.
Era I is all about the stuff that was common knowledge around the world before 1836.
Era II is tied to the First Industrial Revolution, stretching from 1836 to the mid-1800s.
Era III? That’s when things started to stabilize and standards kicked in, going up until the end of the 19th century.
Era IV is all about the Second Industrial Revolution, happening right at the turn of the century.
Era V? That’s the era of game-changing, modern inventions.
Think of Eras as a ballpark indicator of where a country stands on the tech tree at any given moment. But they also make sure you can’t just breeze through to the late-game techs. The further along you are, the more innovation it takes to research stuff. And if you’ve skipped over techs from previous eras in that tree, it’s gonna be even tougher to make progress. So, it’s not about unlocking techs by a specific year, and you’re never totally blocked from pushing your universities to develop techs ahead of their time.
But just know, it’s not the most efficient way to go about it. So, if you’re thinking of gunning for a specific advanced tech, you better make sure it’s really worth it for your strategy, ’cause it’s not gonna be easy…
