Victoria 3: How to Establish Colonies
To kick off your colonial ambitions, you need to get the Colonization technology under your belt. It’s a tier 1 tech and a common starting point for many of the big players in the game. Once you’ve got that, you unlock Colonization laws and the Colonial Affairs Institution, which is key to speeding up your colonial growth.
But where can you plant your flag? Look for strategic regions where you’ve declared an Interest. In those areas, find a state region under the control of a Decentralized nation, and that’s where you can set up shop. Pick your spot, and one of the provinces in that state region will be your new colony’s home base.
Just a heads up, though: starting a colony doesn’t mean you’ve got exclusive rights. Other colonial powers can move in and set up their own colonies right next to yours -> leading to split states and some pretty complicated borders. And you can bet that’s going to stir up some diplomatic drama down the line.
